What is obstructive sleep apnoea?

Sleep apnoea is a common disorder that causes breathing to stop whilst asleep. The most common type is obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) where the airway closes, causing snoring and breathing to stop.  It is believed that 1 in 10 Australians suffer from OSA, with many of these patients remaining undiagnosed.

What to look out for?

The most common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnoea include:

• Snoring
• Poor sleep quality
• Headaches or having trouble concentrating
• Dozing off while driving
• Falling asleep during work

Effects of obstructive sleep apnoea on your body

Obstructive sleep apnoea increases the chance of these health conditions:

• Obesity or weight gain
• Anxiety &/or depression
• High blood pressure
• Heart attack
• Type 2 diabetes
• Stroke
